About audit and assurance
As part of our overall quality assurance approach, we use audits and other assurance activities to assess whether disability support services are meeting expected requirements and standards.
These activities provide insights into the quality, safety, and responsiveness of services, identifying opportunities for improvement that contribute to better outcomes for disabled people over time.
Assurance provides confidence that services are consistently meeting expected requirements and standards. It draws on evidence from audits and other sources. Audits are one way this assurance is obtained, through structured reviews of service quality and performance.
The purpose of audit and assurance
Audit and assurance activities help us understand how well the services we fund are supporting disabled people.
They help identify good practice, address areas of concern, and identify opportunities for learning and improvement across disability support services.
Our audit and assurance activities focus on:
- Improving the quality and safety of disability support services.
- Strengthening safeguarding and reducing the risk of harm.
- Supporting person-centred services that reflect people's rights, choices, goals, and aspirations.
- Identifying opportunities for learning and continuous improvement.
The Enhanced Audit Programme
We primarily deliver audit and assurance through our Enhanced Audit Programme. The programme provides a consistent national approach to assessing service quality, safeguarding, and outcomes for disabled people.
Delivered by our strategic audit partner, KPMG, the programme combines assurance, insights, and continuous improvement to support better services across the disability support system.
