Budgets
This page includes information about funding for Disability Support Services, which is announced in the Government's Budgets.
DSS is a business group in the Ministry of Social Development and is funded through appropriations, within Vote DSS.
Budget 2026
DSS has seen significant investments in recent Budgets, which have raised our ongoing baseline (fixed, ongoing expenditure) to $2.77 billion a year. For example, there was new funding in Budget 2024 of $1.1 billion over five years, and in Budget 2025 of $1 billion over four years.
For the 2026/27 financial year, total appropriations within Vote DSS continue to increase. This will allow DSS to provide more funding to our NASCs and contracted providers and enable them to support both current and new eligible disabled people to access our services and meet increasing costs of services and supports.
DSS will continue working with the disability community and providers to improve outcomes for disabled people.
Summary of recent Vote DSS Budget investments
When new funding is announced in the Budget, it is allocated over multiple years. This informs the total appropriation (how much money) DSS can allocate each year.
